As the world becomes more environmentally conscious and many of our natural resources become more endangered, we’re all looking for ways to save and conserve these precious resources.
Water, being one of our most important and essential resources, is especially scarce in many regions of the world today. And add to that the significance of safe drinking water and the problem becomes even more severe.
But there are many things we can do to help conserve the water we have—things that are even important in countries where the water supply isn’t currently threatened.
The Web site “Water Use It Wisely” is a great resource when it comes to tips for conserving water.
While many of the suggestions are common sense and are widely known, here are a few that aren’t as well known and could really make an impact in your water use.
We all love to wash our cars, especially in the summer. Instead of using your garden hose and a bucket, go to a car wash that uses recycled water to wash your car. This will save gallons of water.
When you give your pets a bath, do it outside in an area of your lawn that needs watering. This will serve a dual purpose and save water—and money on your water bill.
It’s easy to grab a few dirty clothes and then start the washing machine. But “100 Ways to Conserve” suggests waiting until you have a full washer before turning it on.
Finally, another way to save water is to only water your lawn on days when the wind isn’t blowing. When you water on windy days, the water either evaporates or it blows away.
These are just a few of the many tips we can all use to help conserve one of the planet’s most precious resources.
