New Hydration Options for Runners

JoggingEven though much of the nation is still in winter’s embrace, millions of Americans are already preparing for their summer exercise plans. In an effort to stay in shape—or get in better shape—Americans bike, run, play tennis, play basketball or any number of other activities. And summer is the time of year when these activities are in high gear.

For runners, the last several years have witnessed a variety of new technology that can aid in training. Most importantly, the technology for hydration methods advanced substantially in the last few years.

As many long-distance and ultra runners know, when training at distances greater than five or 10 miles, the need for hydration becomes paramount. In the past, runners had to carry with them water bottles when they ran—something that wasn’t always easy to do on a 12-mile training run. Or, runners had to map their training runs so that they would run by facilities with drinking fountains or other hydration methods.

But now, hydration packs—something that looks exactly like a traditional backpack but much smaller and lighter—give runners the ability to run long distances without having to look for hydration spots.

The hydration packs can store dozens of ounces of water and also provide small pockets to store other essentials on any long-distant run. The packs include an easy-to-use straw for hydrating your body.

In addition to hydration packs, there are now a variety of water bottle options that are much more convenient and light weight, some with the ability to strap on to your waste.

So with summer approaching and the exercise season coming into full swing, be sure to check out the multiple hydration options that can make your training sessions more effective—and easy.
